Finding the trail
Once you enter the state park, look for the signs to ‘Pump House Trail’ which has it’s own well marked parking lot.
Then, head onto the trail making sure to go left (Pump House Trail is a 4-5 mile loop, you don’t want to head right as the waterfall would then be 3-4 miles away!). Once on the trail, just follow the signs to ‘Jones Mill Run Dam’ which you will find clearly marked about 1 mile into your walk on Pump House Trail.
About the trail
Pump House Trail is fairly flat, though it does have a slight incline for the first half mile and then goes slightly down the last half a mile to the dam. The trail itself is wide and only has a few rocks here and there – no boulders to go over.
Moving off of Pump House Trail and onto the path to Jones Mill Dam comes with a bit more rock. At the top there is a wonderful lake and easy access to the dam. Going below the dam is possible, but does require climbing on uneven surfaces – just be careful!
It’s worth the hike!
Overall this is a wonderful hike and quite easy. I would plan for about 1.5 hours total from the parking lot to the dam and back.
If you go – let me know! Or, if you have been there, please share your pictures below. I imagine there are amazing photo opportunities all year round!
